CONTEMPORARY: Jasper Knight
*We currently have works by Jasper on view at The Hospital Club (Sep 2010) please call us for details*
Sydney based artist Jasper Knight, has emerged over the last few years as a uniquely talented and highly collectible artist.
Knight’s labour intensive works are part painting, part constructed sculptural objects, hand crafted from various materials such as perspex, old signs, plywood, and found objects. He purposely explores the relationship and connection between the materials and his subject matter before construction begins and his collected materials have a history of their own that often relates directly to the context of the finished work.
In 2005, 2006 & 2007 Jasper was a finalist in the Archibald prize. He was also exhibited in the Wynne Prize in 2005 and 2006. He was awarded an Australia Council New Work grant, the Freedman Foundation Scholarship and the Rocks Art Prize in 2006. He has also been a finalist in the Blake Prize, The ABN-Amro Prize, The Mosman Art Prize, The Helen lempriere Prize and the Brett Whiteley Prize.
Knight has shown in numerous venues, including every major artist-run space in Sydney. He started the Half Dozen Artist-run Initiative in 2004 and it has since shown over 150 artists in four countries. In 2007 he opened Chalk Horse gallery with the generous support of the Australia Council and the City of Sydney.
