MISC: CURWEN STUDIO COLLABORATION
We are delighted to be collaborating with The Curwen Studio, Cambridge, to present a series of limited edition prints at The London Art Fair in 2010.
The studio was set up in 1958 and 50 years later is still going strong. To celebrate their 50th Anniversary four artists have created a special edition print.
Mark Hearld's print depicts the Curwen Press from which they evolved.
Paula Rego's print signifies the beginnings in 1958; Antony Micallef's print captures the current period of printmaking and Mary Dalton represents the future of printmaking.
When the studio was set up in 1958 the intention was to try it and see what happened: no one involved in the decision process envisaged that the business would still be going 50 years on.
Wherever they have been located the ethos of the studio has remained the same: to provide a facility for artists to create original prints of the highest standards using the lithographic medium on a collaborative basis. It is testimony to the artists and the printer's knowledge of lithographic processes that they are still practicing their trade in this largely digital world.
