Bhopal Medical Appeal: Auction

On 3rd December 1984, poison gas leaked from a Union Carbide factory in Bhopal, India, killing thousands. Many are unaware that the disaster in Bhopal continues to this day. An estimated 120,000-150,000 survivors of the disaster are still chronically ill. Over 23,000 have died of exposure-related illnesses and more are dying still.

The Bhopal Medical Appeal (www.bhopal.org) exists to fund a clinic, called ‘Sambhavna’, in Bhopal. The Sambhavna clinic is the only place that anybody suffering the effects of the toxic gas, or the contaminated water, can receive free treatment, and be cared for with the respect they deserve. The dedicated team of doctors, researchers and nurses at the clinic work tirelessly to develop medications and treatments specifically for those affected, who are otherwise ignored and left to suffer in silence.

On December 3rd a demonstration will be taking place in London's Trafalgar Square to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Bhopal disaster. The event will not only commemorate the 1984 disaster but will also highlight the ongoing issues- including the hidden disaster of Bhopal’s toxic drinking water supply.
