Bless-ed: Superimposing the Thought of Happiness
*...If you missed this show at the Bathouse Gallery you are welcome to come and view some works at Ledbury Mews where they will be during August. Please call us first to arrange a time...*
Hot on the heels of their highly successful New York show, Robi Walters & Leanne Wright, aka ‘Bless-ed’, hit London with their unique series of collages and constructed works featuring smashed vinyl and recycled packaging.
Robi & Leanne met in the early 1990’s and spent the ensuing years designing album covers for some of London's most respected underground dance labels and music producers including Gilles Peterson, Bebel Gilberto, Innerzone Orchestra (Carl Craig) and Dego (4 Hero). In 2004, they moved back to Leanne's native Canada, to a rural setting on the shores of the Great Lakes, in order to focus on their artistic practice.
This, their first London solo show, includes pieces from the Shattered Dreams: Vinyl Reckoning and Kaleidocycle series, limited edition prints and drawings.
Selecting and smashing pieces from their own precious record collection Robi & Leanne have created works that include such coveted vinyl as Public Enemy’s It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold us Back… Michael Jackson's Off the Wall … Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On … and other reggae, jazz and soul rarities.
In Kaleidocycle the artists collect discarded packaging and advertising materials to create collages based on one of the root forms of sacred geometry which occurs when two circles overlap creating a petal shape. Works such as Without Ears the Leaves Dance and Zeitgeist with its vivid explosion of colours are at once immediate yet are imbued with a deeper sense of meaning.
Bess-ed’s works will be showing from Friday July 10 – Sunday July 31 at The BathHouse, King's Cross (see address above).
Works start at £ 150 for London Star prints; £ 500 for collages; £ 2,000 for vinyls.
